About Sadiq al-Mahdi

Sadiq al-Mahdi (1935–2020) was Prime Minister twice (1966–1967, 1986–1989) and a prominent opposition figure. A religious scholar and political leader, he represented the Umma Party and advocated for democratic governance. His second premiership ended with the 1989 coup that brought Bashir to power. He remains a symbol of democratic resistance in Sudanese memory.
