Aung San Suu Kyi (b.1945) is a Nobel laureate and longtime leader of the National League for Democracy (NLD). She served as State Counsellor and de facto head of government (2016–2021). After the 2021 coup she has been detained, tried on multiple charges, and sentenced in cases that international observers widely regard as politically motivated.
