Abdul-Malik al-Houthi (b.1979) is the leader of Ansar Allah (the Houthi movement) and has commanded the movement since 2004. Under his leadership the Houthis control large parts of northern Yemen and have been central to the country’s conflict and regional escalation; they are internationally controversial and have been subject to sanctions and targeted actions by foreign states.
